An endangered animal report on the Peregrine falcon
By Grant Keller info found at www.defenders.org
The Peregrine falcon is an endangered animal. You can tell a peregrine falcon from other falcons because they have blue-gray wings, and a very dark brown backs and a white gray colored tummy and there face is white. Right under there eye is a black tear(Its in there feathers), Their beaks are curved, and they have very strong talons, they use these strong talons to catch outer birds from the sky and eat them there.
I think if these birds weren’t endangered they would be a very well known bird, and there would be fewer birds were they nested! (go to www.defenders.org and they have a movie of one catching a bird out of the air)!
Their name peregrine falcon comes from a Latin word; “peregrinus” which means to wander around. They live all over the world. They are usually called a duck hawk. Right now Peregrines are the fastest flying bird in the world and are able to dive a speeds 200 miles per hour! If yore average peregrine falcon can go that fast why cant you’re average car?
These Incredible birds can adapt almost any were except Antarctica. They are found on every continent except Antarctica. They will adapt to cities, tropical jungles, deserts, and islands. There is a rough estimate of about 1650 of them left. Some are protected in zoos to hopefully bread(they have made a recovery but are still in need of some help).
They have a length of 15-21 inches (including wingspan). They way about 2lbs and females are a tiny bit bigger then males. They live 7– 15 years and some can live up to 20 years. For a bird I think that is amazing!
As I was reading in this web sight it said that they are removed from endangered on the American endangered list, but are still endangered in other countries and a few states. I hope this beautiful bird makes a come back
